Education Destination launches The Church Trail (Phase One)

Sep 252016

Education Destination has launched Phase One of its Church Trail, helping Island visitors experience over 1,000 years of church history in a 40 mile tour of the Isle of Wight.

The Island is home to more than 120 Christian churches, many of them medieval and featuring in the Domesday Book of 1086.  This first phase showcases 12 of the most popular church buildings, chosen for their features of interest and relevance to the National Curriculum in the case of KS2 students.

The trail provides an information/activity sheet for each of the churches featured, with different versions for adult/lifelong learners as well as KS2 students, where changes since Victorian times are catalogued.  Each has a fun 'spot the feature' picture quiz to help focus attention on the most important or impressive attributes of the buildings and their surroundings.

More churches will be added to the trail in batches, extending the tour right across the Island and taking in some of our more modern church buildings too.

Many Key Stage 1-4 subjects are covered, with particular emphasis on geography. Kevin George, CEO at Red Funnel, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this award which recognises the team’s hard work in providing educational resources for young people. We’ve had some superb feedback from schools and education providers which proves that our floating classroom concept is really beneficial.”

Peter Tomlinson from Education Destination said: “This prestigious nomination from the official body confirms the quality and innovative nature of the materials which Red Funnel Ferries can offer young people.”

Education Destination's Safety Management System

Jun 132016

Intro

Education Destination's Safety Management System independently vets accommodation providers and visitor attractions specifically for school use through a third party CMIOSH / BSI auditor.

This helps teachers gain rapid approval for trips, cutting down drastically on the amount of paperwork they need to undertake and even helps them avoid time consuming and costly pre-visits.

In turn, this helps make the Isle of Wight a more attractive destination for school trips.

We can help with your approvals paperwork!

We have liaised with many of the UK's Local Education Authorities (LEAs) to understand their vetting and approvals processes for school residential visits. We have collated all of their checklists and procedures. All partner organisations are audited by an independent IOSH Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner and registered BSI auditor using our comprehensive Safety Management System which meets or exceeds all of the requirements we have been presented with.

We are confident that no matter what hoops you are asked to jump through, we already have the answer. Our Safety Management System ensures that our downstream service providers and partners meet the needs of all LEAs, academy chains and trustees. Any aspects which do not meet our minimum requirements will be highlighted and these can be individually risk assessed.

When planning your Isle of Wight school visit, simply look out for accommodation providers and attractions displaying the approval logo (see above). Upon booking with Education Destination, we will share all of the relevant audit details and accompanying documentation with you.

This sounds like a lot of waffle ... how does it help ME?

In a nutshell, it means you can confidently plan a residential school visit to the Isle of Wight with Education Destination safe in the knowledge that much of the paperwork has already been done, and to a standard that will be more than acceptable to your governing bodies.

It will cut down the amount of administration for you, and in most cases even alleviate the need to undertake an inspection visit. We will demonstrate that your accommodation, transport and itinerary venues are safe, fit for purpose and ready to serve your group and any special needs they may have.

When it is rolling out?

Now!  During summer 2016 our auditors will be visiting all of our existing partner attractions and accommodation providers.  All new partners coming on board now are required to go through the audit prior to being recommended to schools.  Therefore, for 2017 trips, every aspect of your Education Destination arranged itinerary will be covered.
