COVID SECURE SCHOOL TRIPS
Introduction
After all of the upheaval in 2020 caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, here at Education Destination we know that schools are reticent about planning residential visits in the near future whilst the virus remains prevalent in society.
However, we also know that school trips take a long time to plan especially when parents are contributing to the cost and monies need to be collected over a period. Logistically, arranging accommodation, transport and visits for large groups needs to be planned well in advance in order to avoid limiting choice.
All aspects of our residential trips are Covid Secure!
Over the summer we have worked closely with all of our partners and providers to ensure that they have adjusted their methods of operation to fall in line with current government advice and restrictions, making them "Covid Secure". There's still a way to go for some of them but we are confident that any remaining concerns will be overcome well in advance of us welcoming our first groups in 2021.
For many attractions, especially outdoor ones, adjustment has been relatively straightforward - for example introducing one-way systems and additional handwashing / gelling facilities. For others, especially indoor attractions or those involving the touching and sharing of equipment or artefacts, this has proven more tricky. However, no problem is insurmountable and some very innovative solutions have been adopted without impacting the overall enjoyment of the visit.
Just as soon as we are satisfied that an attraction or facility is operating in a Covid Secure way, we are awarding our special badge (seen opposite) and this will appear alongside their listings on our website, along with a summary of the steps that have been taken to ensure compliance.
Sounds good, but what if we have to cancel because of Covid?
In 2020, lots of plans suddenly had to change when national and local lockdown restrictions forced the postponement or cancellation of school trips due to Coronavirus. This resulted in a financial impact as deposits were lost and insurance claims were made to recover losses.
We know that many schools will be concerned that this may happen again potentially without the protection of insurance as Covid-19 is no longer an unpredictable event.
With this in mind we have updated our terms and conditions to strictly limit a school's financial losses in the event that cancellation becomes necessary due to government restrictions. The exact amount of exposure will depend on the make-up of services that you choose and the proximity of the planned visit at the point of cancellation, but we are committed to limiting this as much as we possibly can. In many cases we would hope to be able to simply reschedule the date.
