On 13/12/2021 we identified that this resource may be slightly outdated:
The volunteers featured on these resources may no longer be at the Sanctuary. However the resource is still fully useable.
The text has been carefully selected and is an interview with a long-standing member of staff at the IWDS. It helps to engage the pupils with their visit whilst practising their reading, comprehension and writing skills. Students are asked to practise reading the interview to achieve a realistic fluency. They then attempt to remember the answers from memory. They finally write up the information from the interview as a magazine article.
This resource is designed to be used in the classroom as a post-visit resource.
It is a comprehensive English task that engages students with their visit to the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary. The resource tasks enable them to practise their speaking and listening, reading and writing skills.
Students are asked to read an interview and to practise fluency. They then have a go at summarising the answers from memory, before attempting to write the interview up as a magazine article in third person.
Students will demonstrate their reading skills, showing evidence of understanding the meaning of a text and the ability to put it ‘into their own words’. They will also demonstrate their ability to identify first, second and third person pronouns and to apply what they have learned in the creation of their own writing.
