Resource Description
Students study the conventions of article writing and then produce their own article based on their Robin Hill experience.
Contextual Summary
This is a post-visit English writing resource that engages students with their visit to Robin Hill Country Park.
The resource task enables them to practise their journalistic skills. Students are asked to identify literary features in a similar text and then to write to persuade in an engaging way, using their experiences at Robin Hill as their stimulus material.
Task Implementation
This is a follow-up resource to be completed in the classroom post-visit. This task can be introduced before the visit to Robin Hill Country Park so that students are aware of the need to focus on their experience, taking note of the environment and forming ideas for possible creative responses, with particular reference to what different groups of people would enjoy.
The task can be integrated into English lessons at any stage throughout the academic year as a revision tool or for writing practice. It is anticipated that students will have an enriched experience as they will be reflecting on their school visit activities in a creative way, and this will reinforce how English, and writing in particular, can be a valuable expressive tool.
To give their writing an authentic feel, pupils will use ICT to produce their final outcome.

Pre-Visit
Students could study sample articles that feature Island attractions to understand key features and conventions. The task could be discussed in class prior to the trip so students are bearing this in mind when on their visit, focusing on their creative responses during their experience at Robin Hill. During the visit students could make notes on what they see with particular reference to how the different areas may be described in a positive way.
During the Visit
During the visit students could make notes on what they see with particular reference to how the different areas may be described in a positive way. They may also take photographs for use with their article.
