SAFETY MANAGEMENT FOR SCHOOL TRIPS
Introduction
Education Destination understands the level of scrutiny levelled at teachers who are planning residential school trips. We know this can be a huge burden on busy school staff.
One of the main reasons cited in various studies for not undertaking more or different school trips is that teachers have very limited time available to research, plan or prepare. Hence why many schools stick with the same tried and trusted trips every year.
Our Safety Management System independently vets accommodation providers and visitor attractions specifically for school use through a third party CMIOSH / BSI Auditor.
We can help with your approvals paperwork!
We have liaised with many of the UK's Local Education Authorities (LEAs) to understand their vetting and approvals processes for school residential visits. We have collated all of their checklists and procedures. All partner organisations are audited by an independent IOSH Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner and registered BSI auditor using our comprehensive Safety Management System which meets or exceeds all of the requirements we have been presented with.
We are confident that no matter what hoops you are asked to jump through, we already have the answer. Our Safety Management System ensures that our downstream service providers and partners meet the needs of all LEAs, academy chains and trustees. Any aspects which do not meet our minimum requirements will be highlighted and these can be individually risk assessed.
When planning your Isle of Wight school visit, simply look out for accommodation providers and attractions displaying the approval logo (see above right). Upon booking with Education Destination, we will share all of the relevant audit details and accompanying documentation with you.
This sounds like a lot of waffle ... how does it help ME?
In a nutshell, it means you can confidently plan a residential school visit to the Isle of Wight with Education Destination safe in the knowledge that much of the paperwork has already been done, and to a standard that will be more than acceptable to your governing bodies.
It will cut down the amount of administration for you, and in most cases even alleviate the need to undertake an inspection visit. We will demonstrate that your accommodation, transport and itinerary venues are safe, fit for purpose and ready to serve your group and any special needs they may have.
Through a Teacher's Eyes
Our Through a Teacher's Eyes pages offer you a unique walk through of many of our partner venues, highlighting not just the health and safety considerations but also the educational possibilities around the site.
Garnished with video clips, photographs and insights from teachers who have visited before you, Through a Teacher's Eyes is your virtual guide to the Isle of Wight's educational attractions. This section is being continually expanded as we bring on new venues and revisit old favourites.
WITHOUT SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Before we implemented our Safety Management System, teachers who wished to undertake a school trip to the Isle of Wight would have needed to deal directly with everyone involved in the planned trip - from coach operators and ferry companies to accommodation providers and all of the visitor attractions they intended to visit.
Typically it would be necessary to undertake an inspection visit to conduct risk assessments, collect copies of insurance certificates etc.
All of this takes TIME but is critical to obtaining consent for the trip.
WITH SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Now, thanks to our Safety Management System, we have collated and checked all of that documentation in advance, to a standard which meets or exceeds every LEA, academy or trustee requirement we have seen.
Book your Isle of Wight school trip with Education Destination and significantly reduce the amount of administration required. You'll have access to all of the Safety Management documents for participating partners and venues as soon as you confirm your booking.
Reduce the need for inspection visits using our Through a Teacher's Eyes pages to get a virtual tour of the places you'll visit. Save time and money.
