OK so strictly speaking Hurst Spit is not on the Isle of Wight but is attached to the mainland - but you can reach it via a boat service from Yarmouth.
Hurst Spit is a shingle bank at the end of Christchurch Bay extending 2.5Km into the Solent and is the nearest point to the Isle of Wight. Home to Hurst Castle (1544), a scheduled monument and popular destination for visitors, Hurst Spit and its defences, salt marshes and beaches make great learning resources.
Hurst Spit is great for all ages, but perhaps a little overwhelming for the very youngest visitors
