Précis

Students spot landmarks on their journey between Southampton and East Cowes. As these are human features, there is a geography crossover aspect here.

Contextual Summary

This is an on-site PSHE resource that encourages students to interact with the landmarks and vessels they see from on a Red Funnel Ferry. Students work in teams to ?spot? landmarks. In upper key stage 2 and key stage 3, they also have to keep a tally of sea-faring vessels, and key stage 3 students are asked questions about some of the locations and vessels featured.

Implementation

Students work in teams on board the ship to find as many landmarks and/or vessels as they can during their time on deck. All students will be encouraged to use their skills of observation and to think about why these landmarks are there. Upper key stages are challenged to respond to key questions about the many landmarks and sea vessels they see, considering aspects that crossover with human geography. Teachers could give out prizes for the fastest teams, or those with the highest tally or those with the most comprehensive answers.
