From the Isle of Wight’s own secret rocket testing history to a variety of planetariums and observatories across the region, these resources provide a tangible look at planetary movement, gravity, and the history of space exploration.

• The Needles and Rocketry: Explore the Needles New Battery, the historic site of British Black Knight and Black Arrow rocket testing. These sites offer practical insight into the engineering required to overcome gravity and launch objects into space.
• Stokey’s Solar System Walk: Located along the Ventnor revetment, this 1km scale model of the solar system allows students to walk from the Sun to Pluto. Each plaque provides key facts, helping pupils visualize the immense distances between our planets.
• Immersive Planetariums: The Island Planetarium at Fort Victoria offers a 360-degree dome theatre for immersive space shows and astronomer-led talks. • Observatories and Stargazing: Pupils can visit the Clanfield Observatory in Hampshire, one of the best-equipped amateur facilities in the UK, for guided tours and telescope observations.
