A "Discover" RNLI station on the easternmost tip of the Isle of Wight, welcoming tour groups to educate them on the role of the RNLI in this rare, behind-the-scenes opportunity. Students will learn about the types of situations the local lifeboat crews face on a regular basis, and pick up some great water safety tips. No charge is made for tours, which must be agreed in advance and last around an hour. However, donations are very much welcomed and a small fund-raising gift shop is available.

Discover Our Station
Step inside our impressive offshore boathouse at the end of the pier. Pupils will be amazed by the size of our Tamar class lifeboat. It is a thrilling way to learn about the vital coastal rescue work our brave volunteer crews do every day.

Station History
There has been a lifeboat station in Bembridge since 1867 but the current building was completed in 2011 at a cost of £7 million to house the then-new Tamar class lifeboat. It is a key RNLI station strategically placed in the Solent, home to one of the busiest shipping lanes in the UK used by over 100,000 commercial ships per annum along with countless thousands of pleasure craft. On average, the crews are involved in around 50 "shouts" each year for many diverse incidents, saving dozens of lives at sea.
