A safe introduction to watersports for ages 8+Education Destination

Operating from the stunning sandy shores of Sandown Bay, iSurf Watersports provides school groups with an exhilarating and educational introduction to the power of the ocean. As the island's premier mobile surf school, iSurf offers a dynamic outdoor classroom where students can develop physical confidence while engaging directly with the marine environment. For youngsters, catching their first wave is more than just a thrill; it is a lesson in resilience, coordination, and the rewarding challenge of mastering a new skill in the great outdoors.

Under the watchful eye of ISA-qualified instructors, students learn to read the rhythms of the Atlantic swells, understanding how wind direction and tidal movements dictate the day's conditions. This practical application of geography and meteorology helps pupils grasp the complex relationship between global weather patterns and our local coastline, turning a morning on the water into a high-impact science lesson.

Safety and environmental stewardship are at the heart of the iSurf experience. Every session begins with comprehensive ocean literacy training, covering vital water safety skills and rip current awareness.

Adding iSurf Watersports to a residential itinerary offers a perfect balance of high-octane fun and structured learning. The inclusive nature of paddleboarding and surfing ensures that every student, regardless of their initial confidence level, can participate and progress at their own pace. Whether they are exploring the bay's "Maritime History" from a board or simply enjoying the health benefits of an active lifestyle, your group will return to the shore with a lasting connection to the sea and memories of an island adventure they will never forget.

Location

There will be 1 qualified instructor for every 8 students approximately. Adult teachers are welcome to join in too.

Typically the maximum is 24 students. For larger groups they may need to be split into batches, with the non-swimming group playing on the beach adjacent. For very large groups we will probably look to split over two or more half days, with additional offsite activities included round-robin.

Yes, you will need to bring shoes suitable for use on the beach and in the water. Old trainers are great for this.

The activity takes place on a fairly shallow beach. The swimming ability and water confidence of the individuals will be quickly assessed by the instructors and no-one will be expected to go into water deeper than their abilities will allow them to easily cope with.

The exact mix of activities and games on the day will depend on weather and tidal conditions along with the ages of the students and the overall level of water confidence amongst the cohort.

The final safety decision lies with the provider. They offer a wide range of activities and it is unusual for a session to be cancelled due to weather during the summer months. If this does happen, we will try to substitute an alternative activity and if possible re-arrange your iSurf session. iSurf will only refund if THEY cancel the session.

"Great - even in the rain.
Earlier timing would have helped, but we made it work."

"Unfortunately, having used a previous provider, we didn't feel this was up to the same standards. The two men who ran the session were great and engaged with the children; however, the other staff members were not engaged and seemed more interested, at times, on their own swimming. Maybe we expected them to interact more with the children based on our previous experiences. Whilst the waves were quite wild, the children did only do one activity the whole time whereas previously we have built up games and confidence before heading into the water and doing challenges with the children before surfing/bodyboarding etc. We weren't quite sure of safety proceedures such as a whistle being blown in an emergency. I think we will go back to Wight Water next year. "

"Brilliant as always - always adapting and encouraging, the kids had a great time, they helped us out with first aid - would only change timings. "
