/ Isle of Wight School Trip Activities / Coastal Trail / Hurst Spit
Hurst Spit is a shingle bank at the end of Christchurch Bay extending 2.5Km into the Solent and is the nearest mainland point to the Isle of Wight.
Home to Hurst Castle built in 1544, it is a scheduled monument whose defences, salt marshes, geology and fine beaches make great learning resources.
Access to Hurst Spit from the Isle of Wight is via a charter boat service from Yarmouth which Education Destination can arrange. Alternatively we can include a visit in your trip to or from the Island.
Hurst Spit is best suited to older children and adults
The following Hurst Spit educational resources are FREE to use when you book your trip with Education Destination. Some include pre or post-visit classroom work, others are on-site activities. All are accompanied by detailed Teacher Notes and some even have sample lesson plans!
