This is a crossover History and R.E. resource that enables students to discover the many beautiful churches on the Island, to understand their most significant and interesting features, and to comprehend how these relate to cultural, economic and social history. Students will gain an historical perspective by understanding the local, regional, national and international influences on these Island communities and their places of worship.
Each church on the trail has an accompanying 2-page resource. The first page details some information on notable features, the origins of the church, and its history during the Victorian period and after. The second page has a tick list with pictures of interesting features to look for, inside and out.
Students will be able to identify common and less common features present in churches. They will gain a wider understanding of how social, cultural and historical influences affect church communities over time.
