This is an art resource that engages children with their journey on a Red Funnel Ferry. The resource incorporates a pre-visit, on-site and post-visit element that enables children to learn about one artist?s style and how it can link to the ferry environment. Furthermore, it allows them to produce a piece of work in their style.

Implementation

Prior to their visit, students should be shown or research examples of work by Mondrian to put the task in context. During their journey on the Red Funnel ferry, pupils can sketch or use a digital camera to capture a variety of images of shipping containers or other square or rectangular structures or objects. Upon return to school, students will be produce their own image using the methods which enthuse them (choice of materials is up to the teacher). Key stage 2 students could produce a second piece in the style based on something local they see regularly.
