Students collate information about 1930s Shanklin, using a variety of sources from The Model Village Godshill. They then construct their own 1930s leaflet, representing that period in the Island's past. There is a literacy crossover (reading and writing).

This is a History resource that engages students with their visit to The Model Village, Godshill. The resource tasks enable students to look at various sources that relate to The Model Village and its representation of Shanklin in the 1930s. Students use these sources to produce a 1930s leaflet with information for visitors. There is a crossover with English (reading the sources; writing the leaflet text).

Implementation

This is designed as a post-visit resource. This task can be introduced before the visit to The Model Village and students could make notes and take their own photographs should they wish, whilst on the trip. This skills-based task can be integrated into History lessons at any stage throughout the academic year, as good practice. It is anticipated that students will have an enriched experience as they will be working with source information that links directly to their visit to The Model Village. A template for the leaflet is provided as an appendix to the resource, for teachers to make use of as they wish.
