Contextual Summary

This is a maths resource that engages students with their visit to The Model Village Godshill. The on-site resource task enables students to practise their number skills giving opportunities to demonstrate accurate counting, understanding of operations and the solving of simple problems. Students are asked to complete a number work sheet during their visit.

Implementation

This is an on-site resource, to be completed during the visit. This task can be introduced before the visit so that any problems with understanding can be dealt with. It is anticipated that students will have an enriched experience as they will be using their school visit as a learning environment, and this will reinforce how the effective handling of number can provide solutions to problems. Before the visit, pupils could revise writing number sentences for pictorial representations. There is a also a pre-visit resource relating to scale, which would be a useful addition (this is ED Resource 10923).

• ASDM of number and the recording of numerical patterns as number sentences

Learning Outcomes

Students will demonstrate their skills in recognising number patterns, recording these as number sentences and using their observations to help solve mathematical problems.
