English → Writing (Composition) → General Writing for Purpose and Audience

Implementation

This is a follow-up resource to be completed in the classroom post- visit. This task can be introduced before the visit to Blackgang Chine so that students are aware of the need to focus on their experience, taking note of the environment of Restricted Area 5 and the information located there, thus forming ideas for possible research after their visit. In particular, they need to consider questions about the dinosaurs for which they should like to know the answers. The tasks can be integrated into English lessons at any stage throughout the academic year for writing practice although the best results will be achieved immediately following the visit. It is anticipated that students will have an enriched experience as they will be reflecting on their school visit activities in an inspired way, and this will reinforce how English, and writing in particular, is a valuable communicative tool.
