Implementation

Prior to their visit, students could be presented with the range of tasks available for this resource. This will allow them to generate ideas prior to their journey (and they can add to these planning notes whilst on the vessel). Upon return to school, students will be given time to reflect on their experience and independently plan their response to the writing prompts (although some children may need support with this, as it will depend upon the ability of the child). Students will need to consider the audience and purpose of their writing, and draw upon their knowledge of the features of their chosen genre. Skills of planning, drafting, evaluating and editing their work will be encouraged throughout the writing process, allowing students the opportunity to think aloud to generate ideas and check that meaning is clear.
