Implementation

A pre-visit introduction will allow students to prepare for the on site tasks where they will be carrying out imaginary interviews with selected animals. They will need to target questions towards factual information and opinions. These could be prepared in this pre-visit lesson. If used in conjunction with the mini cross-curricular project resource, there is a pre-visit lesson plan provided that could be adapted. Once on site, students will look around and then choose one animal from the three sections of the park. They will then work with a partner to construct an imaginary interview with the animal of their choice extracting both factual information (using the signs), and opinions. Low ability worksheets are provided but students will need support in completing them. The main project should be continued in the classroom with a partner post-visit where the interviews should be worked on and role play encouraged. Extra time may be given for further research before interviews are practised and recorded.
