This resource is supported with a pre-visit lesson at school. There is an on-site activity lasting about 30 minutes and suggestions for follow up tasks to be completed back at school. The project covers a range of subject areas including science, history and geography.

Implementation

The initial classroom lesson prepares students for the on-site tasks by introducing the categorisation of animals (see associated lesson plan). The concept of artificial selection is introduced for years 5 and 6. This would link well with a study of Darwin and the theory of evolution. During their time on-site, students will complete a worksheet as they collect information about the animals. Once back at school, the project will be continued in the classroom where students investigate the difference between wild and domestic animals. There are some suggested activities provided for follow up work.
