This is a fun orienteering and geocaching inspired PSHE activity which involves navigating using GPS and retrieving information from a series of plaques located around Robin Hill. The task is designed to engage students with their visit to the park and enables teachers to focus students on any of several possible curriculum subjects. The task challenges students to practise their precise observation and navigational skills by competing against other teams to find plaques that contain several subject tasks. Implementation

This resource requires no pre-visit preparation other than ensuring students have access to GPS equipment (an app on their phone for example). Teachers must decide whether to focus their students on one subject activity or several - this will depend on the time available and capability of the groups. Different groups could be tasked with undertaking different subject activities, or all of them can complete the same one e.g. History. The plaques can be visited in any order so groups can be dispatched in different directions to minimise waiting time. This is quite a strenuous activity as it incorporates the whole park, which could mean a lot of walking / running. Advise students to carry water and wear appropriate clothing to suit the expected weather conditions. As a PSHE working together task, groups should be coached to share the roles involved in the activity. For example, the GPS unit should be passed around and the roles of scribe or navigator varied. Everyone should be encouraged to contribute.
