Step inside a wealth of history on a trip to Hurst Castle, arguably one of the best days out in the New Forest.
Lots of open spaces, different rooms, nooks and crannies to explore plus centuries of military history to discover.
Getting to the castle is part of the adventure - either a leisurely ferry ride or a 2-mile walk along the shingle spit which offers fantastic views.
The heart of Hurst Castle is the Tudor keep which retains much of its original 16th century appearance. King Charles I was held prisoner here in 1648. Travel through time to the west wing and don't miss the garrison theatre, the last to survive from WWII.
