Students work in pairs or small groups directing each other through the maze. The task is designed to appeal to students in key stage 1, but could be a fun activity for any key stage!

Contextual Summary

This fun activity enables students to develop their use of directional language, and to practise giving instructions and directions in a clear and methodical way.

Key Skills Practised
  • Using mathematical vocabulary to describe position, direction and movement, including movement in a straight line
  • Distinguishing between rotation as a turn and in terms of right angles for quarter, half and three-quarter turns (clockwise and anti-clockwise)
  • Communication skills - using clear instructions.

Learning Outcomes
