This is a pre and post visit resource, designed around the students’ ferry journey to the island. Students will cover the basics of forces, including air resistance, water resistance, friction, upthrust and gravity. This knowledge will be used to design a new ferry, taking into account speed and practicality. They will also investigate water resistance on a variety of different boat shapes, thinking about fair tests and variables.
This resource is for students in upper key stage 2. It relates to the science – ‘Forces’ part of the curriculum. Students will be identifying the effects of friction, water and air resistance on moving surfaces.
Students will understand about forces and how they affect moving objects. They will practise speaking and listening within pair, groups and whole class. They will plan and carry out a scientific investigation.
